Tips for OET Writing

It’s the candidate's tendency to make common mistakes most other candidates make in the test, hence we have drafted the below few tips for the OET writing test which will crack the writing subtest.

  1. THOROUGHLY READ THE WRITING TASK

This seems obvious but many students just glance through the task. Make sure you read it THOROUGHLY and recognize WHO you are writing to, WHAT is the reason for writing and what is their ROLE in the patient’s care. Candidates assume they are writing to a community nurse which is a common mistake.

  1. THE KEY ISSUES NEEDS TO BE RECOGNIZED

Recognize the important issues in the case by thoroughly reading through the notes. Recognizing the important issues will ensure you pick up the most relevant information that can be included in your letter and prevent you from blindly writing everything from the notes.

  1. MAINTAIN YOUR WORD COUNT

180-200 words are the word count of the task. It is strongly recommended to leave at least 1 minute at the end of the task so that the candidate can quickly count the number of words to ensure they are within the word limit. As discussed in tip #2 above, Focusing to stay within the word count will also encourage you to choose your relevant information carefully

  1. PRACTICE MAKES A MAN PERFECT!!

The above tips are of no value unless you put them into practice. The quality of your practice will determine the caliber of your performance, recollecting the tips mentioned above and also timing yourself accordingly.
